Some people will always want their coffee black. These purists may prefer their no cream, no sugar added, but the rest of us like to be a little more adventurous. If you have tried all the latest creamer flavors and syrups and are looking for something new, we have some unique suggestions that may surprise you.

Spices: We use them when we cook without even thinking about it, but not when making our coffee. If you are brewing your own coffee, you can choose to add spices directly to your coffee grounds. Otherwise, sprinkle some in your mug. Try cinnamon if you are trying to use less sugar, or salt to reduce the bitterness of the flavor. You can even add cardamom to give the caffeine an extra kick.

Butter: This is a trend that is catching on and turning coffee into more than a beverage. It can be an energizing breakfast with some smooth, gourmet butter melted into your cup. This creamy blend is best when you choose your butter for maximum impact.

Cocoa powder: Without the added sugar, natural cocoa powder gives you that chocolate flavor along with the antioxidants and vitamins found in cocoa beans.

Honey: This natural sweetener provides great flavor with numerable health benefits. Great for sore throats, acid reflux, and even warding of certain cancers, honey is the perfect substitute for the sugar bowl.

Yogurt: Similar to butter, yogurt adds creaminess and calories to your coffee, but these calories are not as abundant or empty. If you love yogurt, this is worth a try, giving your coffee texture and sweetness without creamer or sugar.
