Most of us set a few New Year’s resolutions to jump start our level of activity or improve our general health. These are admirable goals, especially if you go about it the right way. Losing a few pounds and getting fit increases energy and reduces health problems, but you don’t have to give up everything you love to create the new you.
Some people think that a new diet or lifestyle will only demonstrate results if it is extreme. Cut out sugar, fat, or carbs completely. There are multiple problems with this theory. First, it is doomed to failure. Whenever you try to go cold turkey on just about anything, you end up giving in and binging. Another reason is that most foods and drinks are healthy in moderation, so you have no reason to cut them completely.
Consider coffee as an example. When people cut coffee from their diet, they are discounting the benefits that coffee provides. Studies have proven that the caffeine, antioxidants, and nutrients in 2-3 cups of coffee each day are great for our health. Feel mentally sharp, lose weight, and even avoid some forms of cancer by keeping a healthy amount of coffee in your diet.
Trying to drink more water but just don’t like to drink it? Coffee and tea are ideal alternatives. Get the benefits of water with a taste that you love, as long as you keep the sweeteners and creamers to a minimum. Experiment with different flavors of cold and hot brews to find the ones you love.
