The relationship between coffee and water can be a tricky one for many of us who are used to working in an office. After all, we all sort of know that we should be drinking more water for our health, but we all also kind of have an obsession with coffee itself. And why wouldn’t we, after all? Coffee is tasty, picks you up, and can definitely get addictive – in a good way.

But adding a little water to the mix can do your body good, too. And for that reason, it’s important to think about not only the relationship between coffee and water, but how you might be able to use it and get the most out of it while also making sure you get your caffeine fix and stay productive, energized, and focused at work.

Water is always good!

It doesn’t matter the time of day, or the situation – water is always tasty and good, and can work for pretty much any occasion! Whether it’s one glass in the morning, or a few glasses interspersed with your coffee consumption throughout the day, it’s important to make it a point to drink some water here and there. You may not hit your eight to ten glasses goal every single day, but even a little bit of water can work wonders for you when it comes to getting the most out of your health and improving your body (while still getting that coffee fix!).

Go with what works

Whether you switch to water after lunch, or you are one of those people who drinks coffee all throughout the day, only to grab some water with dinner, you need to go with what works for you. For some, that means making it a point to get more water into your system straight away, and for others, that means sticking with coffee as it will make them more productive and energetic. If it works for you, it works for you! No need to reinvent the wheel on your hydration schedule if you can’t consistently and realistically stick to a goal regarding the schedule itself.

Shut down coffee a few hours before bed

For many, though, it’s critical to shut down the coffee consumption before bed – especially if you are having trouble sleeping at night. If you typically go to sleep at 10 pm, think about stopping your coffee consumption early – even 5 or 6 pm, to give your body a few hours to run the caffeine through its system and move forward in a healthy way. Your body consumes and holds caffeine longer than you may think; for that reason, it’s critical you let it all out of your system without worrying about the effects on your sleep schedule.

Many people, in all, will make it a point to alternate throughout the day – one glass of coffee, followed by one of water. This is a great way to stay hydrated and healthy, and a great motivation, too – finish that healthy water, and get another tasty cup of coffee! And you’ll be healthy, hydrated, energized, and focused as you do it…
